The Man With The Plan// Brooklyn Bridge Story

By: Aileen Renteria//

Hello, my name is John Augustus Roebling. I am creator, designer, pioneer, man with the plan if you will. Besides my obvious achievements, I was not always known for the creation of the Brooklyn Bridge. I was born in Germany in 1806, I then studied industrial engineering in Berlin . I believe I was 25, when I decided to start a new life. I immigrated to western Pennsylvania, where I attempted, unsuccessfully, to make a living as a farmer. After my first attempt to success failed; I later moved to the state capital in Harrisburg, where I found work as a civil engineer. I promoted the use of wire cable and established a successful wire-cable factory. For there on I used my skills in engineering to establish and construct many bridges just like the Brooklyn Bridge. In order to succeed you must first fail.

EDGAR ALLAN POE THE RAVEN//MADDIE

Edgar Allan Poe’s poem, The Raven has a very deep interpretation. As it says in the poem “here I opened wide the door; Darkness there and nothing more. Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before But the silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no token.” In those verses it shows an example of a man reaching for a friend, but no one is there. The man in the poem could be Edgar himself, or another man, but the poem represents a sad, lonely, desperate person that needs someone to talk to. He could be going crazy, because throughout the poem this man hears tapping and voices and he thinks that someone is talking to him. He was hearing voices his his way of ignoring the facts was by making up friends and voices. This poem comes to show that the man is insane and he needs social and mental help.

GRANT PROPOSAL ESSAY/MADDIE

Hello, my name is Madeline Hill and I am an 8th grade student at Monte Vista Christian school located in Watsonville California. In my language class we were all assigned to think about, something that could really benefit my life and make things financially easier for my family? I wanted to find something that could benefit my family, and would help save us money for important things in the future like college and other things. My parents are divorced and at my moms house we live with my step dad, step sister(16), step brother(13), my brother(11), my mom and myself. Overall that is six people total in our household. My mom is the director of accounting at my school, and my step dad commutes over the hill everyday and attends his job at Cisco as a company designer and sales. Both my parents work extremely hard, and I wanted to try and do something that could give back to them. By all means I’m not trying to guilt trip you, my family does just does just get by financially, but it is quite sad to see them get so stressed out by money and savings because in reality we are not millionaires and they have a lot to pay for due to our large family. Right now we are in the process of moving due to size and location, I live currently in Aptos, Ca and we are trying to move closer towards Santa Cruz, since my step siblings attend school over there and there is to much traffic. Unfortunately Everything that would fit our personal needs of size (space for 6 people and a garage) after several months we really were just not able to find anything that we can afford. As of a couple weeks ago we were able to find a house in seascape, we currently are getting research and other important information of the house, but so far so good! We just spent this last weekend packing up our rooms. Anyways to summarize that is that my parents do get payed fairly enough to just get by, and we do, but currently money has been a struggle since we are moving and the house is so expensive. Everyone in my family has at least 1 or 2 devices that are charged every night plus two t.v.’s, many loads of laundry, heating, lights, refrigerating, and many other daily life necessities. Our average electric bill ranges from $200-$300. I think a great solution, and benefit that would help my family, save money, increase the value of our new house, and will help the environment would be solar panels! Or at least maybe a portion of it payed because we cannot afford the original cost. Once again I am not deprived and could be in much worse situations like many other kids in the world who don’t even have fresh water or a home. My family does so much for me and my siblings and we are all so grateful for how hard they both work. My family and I would be honestly forever grateful for this grant! I am not sure the rules or if my parents even qualify for this, but I thought it would be worth a try! Thank you so much for reading this and I think what you guys do is so awesome! I believe corporations and programs like this can truly make a difference in the world, Let’s make a difference together!

Dream, Devine Discover

Dream: we want to make a point at the end of the movie that humans and their rights should be equal no matter if they are rich or poor. We want to explain how during the gilded age there was greed and many more problems and how nowadays in our century we are reliving that part of history. We want to portray and show all the messed up things in the world that continue to lead our world and society down the hill. We also want to explain in somewhat detail the series of events that led them
Define: This task has lead us to discover the different similarities our generation has with the time an or era of the gilded age. We will strive to make the best representation of the following, politics, economics, and society and how he similarities apply. History repeats and so we will focus our movie on the repetition of this generation.

Discover:The Gilded Age is defined as the time between the Civil War and World War I during which the U.S. population and economy grew quickly, there was a lot of political corruption and corporate financial misdealings and many wealthy people lived very fancy lives. This time has been named the “Gilded age” due to the coroption of society, due to the wealthy people. This era has connect to the industrial time in which machines and labor has been BUT upon children therefore we would like to make. A point at the end of the movie explaining the theme. “History Repeats”

Thoughts on ” The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe

The poem created by Edgar Allan Poe, “The Raven” generates a scene of emotions and thoughts, many of which confuse others. With my perspective, “The Raven” is a mythical representation of madness, caused by the loss of love. Through out the poem, the narrator has deep conflict with the idea of forgetting, which causes the narrator to speak to the raven. He mainly asks the Raven questions. Typically his questions have to do with his personal incite on loss. The ravens usual response is, “Never more” the narrator begins to assumes those words are the raven’s “only stock in store” yet continues to ask questions. The narrator at the beginning of the poem is stated to be “weak and weary” and throughout the poem becomes frustrated. He might be frustrated with the thought of loss and loneliness, for the narrator is very lonely due to the loss of his beloved.

Grant Opportunities

By: Aileen Renteria

I would like to make a difference. To make a difference, an impact on this world, you must thrive for success. Recently my teacher has instructed me to write a grant. This is huge opportunity for me. My older brother suffers from schizophrenia. His illnesss includes hearing voices and reacting to them negatively. This has affected me greatly. My older brother was my idol. I looked up to him. He helped me with every opstecale we faced together and instructs me to think positively and look on the bright side. The following includes why my older brother deserves this opportunity. When door opens another one slams in your face. My older brother has gone through a lot.

Not only will this grant support my older brother financially but mentally as well. At the age of 16 he was diagnosed with schizophrenia. His illness has effected him, as well as our family greatly. It played a major roll in the development of his life. It caused my brother’s grades to decrease negatively, affecting his ability to succeed. This major step back is the cause of many life changes. Yet, besides the ups and downs my brother is recovering. Due to the loss of money on diagnoses, treatments, and therapy my parents are struggling to pay for college as well as support three other children.

Efrain Renteria, my older brother yet strives forward and has set goals. His goal is to become a mechanical engineer. He has chosen this field, since my father owns a small business that is striving day by day, and so he would like to be part of the practice. The subject he strikes resemblance in is math. His technique and structure helps him gather his thoughts. And so I would like the support of this grant to go to my brother’s future success.
